Workshop on Filing Patents in Social Sciences and Management

On November 21, 2024, the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell, under the aegis of the Research and Development Cell (RDC) at the Asian School of Business, organized a workshop titled “Filing Patents in Social Sciences and Management.” This workshop aimed to raise awareness of the critical intersection between intellectual property and innovation in non-technical fields. The session was led by Ms. Pooja Kumar, a seasoned Government Patent Agent and Director of Innove Intellects Firm, whose expertise provided participants with a thorough understanding of the patent system’s relevance beyond traditional STEM fields.

The workshop offered an in-depth exploration of the patent filing process, covering key aspects such as documentation requirements, legal compliance, and timelines. It underscored the significance of protecting innovations in social sciences and management, fields traditionally perceived as outside the patent sphere. Practical case studies and real-world examples were utilized to demonstrate how research and innovations in these areas can be safeguarded and monetized. The event also featured interactive Q&A sessions, enabling participants to engage directly with experts, clarify doubts, and gain actionable insights.

A major takeaway from the workshop was the realization of how patents can contribute to policy development, market-driven innovations, and the advancement of academic research. Additionally, the session emphasized the necessity of fostering collaborative partnerships among academia, industry, and government to accelerate research commercialization. Through this initiative, the Asian School of Business reinforced its dedication to cultivating a culture of innovation and enhancing intellectual property literacy among its stakeholders, further establishing itself as a hub of academic and research excellence.
