With India celebrating the pride of being the Presidency for the G20 Summit in 2023, The Human Value and Counselling Cell planned to be a part of the celebration, where we organized the Model G20 Summit for our students. The Model G20 Summit marked two very important events: the celebration of the Indian Presidency and celebrating World Peace and Understanding Day. The Model G20 Summit was planned for February 23 and 24, 2023. The simulation consisted of three tracks: the Leaders Track, the Finance Track, and the Sherpa Track. The theme for the three tracks was centered around the idea of building peace and resilience around us. The Leaders Track witnessed negotiations on “Vasudhaiya Kutumbakam: One Earth, One Family, One Future.” The Finance track witnessed negotiations about “Financing Cities of Tomorrow: Inclusive, Resilient, and Peaceful”. The Sherpa track witnessed the negotiations for “building a resilient and conflict-free society”. The summit observed the participation of students who were designated as representatives of the G20 countries. The Group of Twenty (G20) comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and the European Union. The G20 members represent around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population. Also, the students represented the United Nations, the World Bank, and WHO as delegates. It was enthralling to see how students researched and presented their negotiations with confidence and keenness. The objective was to provide students with a platform to present themselves as leaders, showcase their leadership skills, and work towards building a society that is peaceful and resilient.
