Pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (B.COM) is an exciting journey filled with opportunities to grow academically and personally. Between attending lectures, tackling assignments, and preparing for exams, B.COM students often juggle a vibrant mix of extracurricular activities like business clubs, part-time jobs, and internships. How do they manage it all without burning out? We spoke with a few of our second year B.COM students to share their strategies for striking the perfect balance. Whether you’re a current student or considering joining our program, these tips will help you thrive in both your studies and campus life.
Why Balance Matters
A B.COM program is designed to prepare you for the dynamic world of business, and that means more than just acing your exams. Extracurriculars—whether it’s leading a college club, interning at a startup, or volunteering for a local nonprofit—build skills like teamwork, leadership, and time management that employers value. But with only 24 hours in a day, finding harmony between academics and these activities is key to making the most of your university experience.
Here’s what our students had to say about mastering this balancing act.
Tip 1: Plan Your Week
“Using a planner changed everything,” says Vaishnavi Pathak. “Every Sunday, I schedule classes, study time, and club meetings.” Use Google Calendar or a notebook, color-code tasks, and leave buffer time for unexpected priorities.
Tip 2: Choose Extracurriculars Wisely
“I overcommitted in my first year,” admits Chandra Shekhar Chauhan. “Now, I focus on one club where I serve as a secretary.” Pick 1-2 activities aligned with your goals, like a finance club for banking hopefuls, and prioritize impact over quantity.
Tip 3: Use Downtime Smartly
“I review notes during class breaks,” says Neikhokim Vaiphei. Keep study materials handy, listen to business podcasts on commutes, or tackle small tasks like emails to stay productive.
Tip 4: Tap Campus Resources
“The Crafting Prodigy Program’s meetings’ regarding time-management helped me,” shares Kshitiz Bhardwaj. Meet advisors, attend workshops, and use study spaces to stay focused.
Tip 5: Prioritize Self-Care
“I schedule workouts and sleep,” Aryan Andoria says. Block time for relaxation, say “no” to non-essentials, and reassess if overwhelmed.
