Date of Visit: 14th February 2025
Location: 16th Floor, Scope Minar, Laxmi Nagar, Delhi – 110092
As part of the industry engagement and experiential learning initiative, students from the 5-Year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM – BBA + PGDM) at the Asian School of Business had the privilege of visiting the esteemed premises of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) in Delhi on 14th February 2025.
The delegation comprised three students from BBA Semester II — Mr. Vrashank Maheshwari, Mr. Hardik Makkar, and Mr. Rohan Kumar. They were accompanied by faculty mentor Dr. Rupali and Corporate Resource Centre (CRC) member Mrs. Tanu Goel.
The team was cordially welcomed by Mr. Sanjay Upadhyay, General Manager (Personnel), who initiated the session with an insightful overview of SAIL. The presentation encompassed the organization’s rich legacy, strategic importance in India’s industrial framework, and its standing in the global steel market.
The highlight of the visit was an engaging interactive session conducted by Mr. Upadhyay, wherein he elaborated on the core functions, operational dynamics, and contemporary challenges faced by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like SAIL.
Key takeaways from the session included:
- SAIL’s Strategic Role: As one of the largest steel producers in India, SAIL plays a pivotal role in national infrastructure development and industrial expansion.
- Operations and Management Insights: Students received a comprehensive understanding of how SAIL oversees its vast production, distribution, and sales networks across various sectors.
- Global Industry Perspective: The session provided clarity on the influence of international economic trends and policy frameworks on the steel industry, particularly in the context of pricing, demand, and exports.
- Challenges and Future Prospects: Discussions included the impact of government policies, the push towards sustainability, adoption of new technologies, and strategies for long-term growth.
The visit concluded with a group photograph to commemorate the occasion. A token of appreciation — including a memento and a sapling — was presented to SAIL in gratitude for their warm hospitality and enriching knowledge-sharing session.
This corporate visit proved to be an invaluable learning experience for the students. It bridged the gap between academic theory and industry practice, deepening their understanding of the steel sector, PSU governance, and global economic linkages. The exposure also offered meaningful insights into prospective career paths within the manufacturing and public enterprise domains.
