He authored famous books like “You Can Win” (“Jeet Aapki” in Hindi), “Living With Honor”, “Freedom Is Not Free”, and “You Can Sell”.
A core initiative of Asian Education Group (AEG) – considered as the largest centre for professional media, IT, law, management, fashion & hospitality education in Asia with world-class facilities – the webinar was followed by a lively Q&A Session with the honoured guest.
The power-packed session commenced with a welcome note, followed by a brief introduction of the honoured guest by Ms. Garima on behalf of the AEG family. Thereafter, Mr. Shiv Khera took centre stage.
Mr. Shiv Khera began his much awaited session with a brief recount of his personal life and struggles, which according to him was a “saga of setbacks turned into comebacks”. Here he talked about the sudden closure of his family business and the family literally coming on to the streets, his not-so-impressive academic record, his migration to Canada where he started washing cars for a living, his stint as a life insurance agent and his coming over to America where he got to listen to a seminar of a motivational speaker and got thoroughly inspired. After this his life changed hugely.
Coming back to the topic of the day – viz., ‘Building a Lasting CAN DO Attitude’ in context to coping with current Coronavirus crisis, preparing for success & win, and motivating oneself & others – Mr. Khera said that the crisis had certainly led to widespread insecurity, uncertainty and unpredictability giving rise to stress, anxiety, frustration, depression and anger, but we should remember that “stress makes us perform”. He stated, “Let us not overrate the crisis and underrate our capabilities to fight and win.” He said that the “Coronavirus crisis had affected us physically, economically and psychologically or emotionally … and the emotionally weak are seen to be breaking down while the emotionally strong are coming out strong from this crisis.”
The renowned Indian author, activist and professional speaker then offered the students ‘8 KEY SOLUTIONS’ to beat this crisis and come out successful and become a winner in their life and careers. The first solution was the ‘SERINITY PRAYER’ whereby he asked the students to pray to God to grant them “the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” This way, according to Mr. Khera, we will realize that “problem is a sign of life” and we must learn to cope with crisis accordingly. “Life is full of choices and compromises and we are free to the point of making a choice; so we must make the right choices in life so that we do not face failures.” The second solution to face the crisis was to “limit exposure to news for just 15 minutes twice during the day because they only foster negativity.” The third solution was, “Convert your wasted time to productive time.” He suggested students to “read good books instead of watching TV programs for 3-4 hours a day.” He said, “If we have not added skills, become more knowledgeable, healthy and fitter during this crisis and the lockdowns, then we have wasted our time.” The fourth point that he talked about was “only boring people are bored in life” and how we must “add variety and an attitude to help those in need around us to get rid of depression.” The fifth point was, “Build strong relationship in life; people who have good relations with people around them suffer less and gain more in their lives.” The sixth point was, “Become a proactive person and learn to stand up for good causes in life situations.” The seventh point he spoke about was, “Faith gives strength, but blind faith leads to superstitions and makes one weak as a person.” The eight point was that the crisis had taught us “it’s time for us to learn to share and give back to society in whatever way we can by helping to alleviate the sufferings of the less fortunate people around us.”
Mr. Shiv Khera then opened the session for questions from the eager students. As expected, there was a series of questions put forward by students on the topic of motivation in adverse situations. The erudite and much experienced guest speaker answered them all most authoritatively and to the utmost satisfaction of all participants.
Thereafter, the absolutely exciting session with the world-famous Indian author, activist and professional speaker, Mr. Shiv Khera came to an end.
